Brighter Futures: A Continued Commitment to Digital Access
Article Summary
Through Brighter Futures, Lumine Group continues its support of Renewed Computer Technology Ontario (RCTO), an Ontario charitable organization that renews donated computers and places them with people and organizations that need them. This article explains how RCTO matches refurbished devices to community needs. RCTO coordinates Lumine’s 2026 support for five Ontario organizations through Brighter Futures, Lumine’s community impact platform.
A computer can be critical for schoolwork, job searches, and access to essential services. For people without one, those everyday tasks can be harder to manage.
That idea is one of the reasons Lumine works with Renewed Computer Technology Ontario (RCTO), whose approach combines technology reuse with support tailored to community needs.
In 2026, the partnership will support five Ontario organizations through Brighter Futures, Lumine’s platform for community impact, building on work that began in 2025.
A second life for technology

RCTO is an Ontario charitable organization that expands access to technology, skills development, and learning. Through its Computer for Schools Plus program, it has delivered more than 510,000 computers. A laptop that no longer meets a company’s needs may still be well suited to someone learning English or connecting with family. Matching a device’s capabilities to its next user’s needs helps extend its useful life.
Hafza Arshad, Community Engagement Lead for Toronto and South-Central Ontario at Renewed Computer Technology of Ontario, sees the impact firsthand.
“Hearing firsthand the joy of someone receiving a device when they haven’t had access to one before is a reminder that something we might take for granted can make a real difference in someone else’s life.”
Hafza Arshad, Community Engagement Lead, RCTO
Donated devices are central to that work, she explains: “Thanks to the generosity of donors and organizations who pass along their devices, technology that may no longer be needed by one person can become something valuable to someone else.”
Matching technology with a need

RCTO helps people access technology for learning, finding work and using everyday services. That practical focus on access made the organization a natural fit for Brighter Futures.
Our work with RCTO first began in 2025. Lumine’s support helped provide refurbished technology to organizations including Centennial Sr. Public School, The Ottawa Mission, M’Wikwedong Indigenous Friendship Centre and Covenant House Toronto. The intended uses ranged from an employment centre and school for youth to a student lending library and technology supporting job searches, education and employment training.
The five Ontario organizations supported in 2026 serve people through education, employment, mental health, youth development and community programming.
Since the partnership began, Lumine’s donations have supported RCTO’s work with nine organizations across Ontario and helped enable the refurbishment of hundreds of computers.
What a computer can enable
Marie DeLuca, Senior Manager, Sales & Marketing, has spent ten years with RCTO.
“A computer may seem like a simple thing, but for someone who doesn’t have access to one, it can open doors to education, employment, connection, and opportunities they may not otherwise have.”

Partnerships help RCTO respond to those needs, she says: “We’re able to take technology that one organization no longer needs and put it into the hands of people and communities who can use it to learn, grow, and move forward.”
Building Brighter Futures, Together
The partnership reflects Brighter Futures’ focus on technology access, education, and long-term community investment. It also reflects Lumine’s broader commitment to building strong businesses for the long term while supporting the communities where our companies and people live and work.
As Hafza puts it: “To me, working at RCTO means being part of something that connects people, reduces waste, and reminds us that the value of technology goes far beyond being the latest model.”
